Bioidentical Hormones

Hormones are not drugs. They are naturally occurring substances that are found in
all humans since the time of conception. BHRT replaces hormones at a
"physiologic" level that is not harmful to the body. Physiologic levels never exceed
what the individual has already been accustomed to in his or her younger years.
We use FDA approved bioidentical hormones (natural hormones) whenever
possible; however, when a dosage or strength that the patient requires is not
commercially available, we use a compounding pharmacy to prepare an
individualized prescription. Compounding pharmacists must comply with the
regulation of the state boards of pharmacy, and they have access to the highest
grade bulk ingredients as well as state-of-the art equipment used to accurately
prepare hormone preparations. Close monitoring of the patient helps to promote
maximum benefits and safety.
Individuals who suffer from PMS, menopausal symptoms, andropausal symptoms,
loss of sex drive, chronic fatigue, insomnia, anxiety, depression, headaches, weight
gain, persistent pain, or many other common conditions may benefit from our
BHRT program.
What are the benefits of BHRT?
Our BHRT program provides many benefits for patients with hormonal imbalances
including:
- Restored hormone balance and relief of related symptoms
- Improved heart health
- Increased bone production and prevention of osteoporosis
- Enhanced energy and sex drive
- Reduced wrinkles and improved skin tone
- Improved mental sharpness and better memory
- How do I get started and what steps are involved?
- Below, our four step approach to assessing patients and implementing the
BHRT program is described.
STEP 1: Contact Us
Contact Dr. Hagedorn at 910-353-1925 to schedule a consultation appointment.
Payment of $250 will be due at the time of the consultation.
STEP 2: Initial Consultation
The initial consultation is one hour long and consists of a review of your family
history, past medical history, current medical problems, risks factors for
preventable diseases, nutritional history, toxic substance exposure history and
recent symptoms. Typically, additional testing to include salivary hormone levels
and early detection blood tests for thyroid disorders, diabetes and heart disease
risks (often not performed by traditional practitioners) will be recommended.
Other specialized tests may be ordered such as vitamin and nutritional assessments,
stool analysis and detoxification profiles.
STEP 3: Treatment
To allow time to receive test results, follow-up appointments are typically 30
minutes long and are scheduled four to six weeks after the initial appointment.
During this appointment, all of your laboratory results will be reviewed with you in
detail. Your anti-aging treatment plan will be covered, and any prescriptions along
with your laboratory results will be given to you at this time. Depending on your
individual requirements, we will either prescribe a commercially available hormone
preparation or a compounded variation.
STEP 4: Follow-Up
With our BHRT program, follow up is critical to success since each individual's
response to the therapy can not be precisely predicted. The program requires a
reevaluation which includes new saliva and blood testing after the first three
months of treatment, and either quarterly or every six months thereafter depending
on the results for the first year. If the hormone levels stabilize, only an annual
reevaluation is required.
What are the costs of the BHRT program?
The physician fee for the initial consultation is $250.00. Individual follow-up visits
are $200. In addition, it is recommended that all patients commit to a nutritional
supplementation program that has been specifically designed for the client's
individual needs.
The prices provided above do not include the cost of lab tests and the actual
hormone preparations. These costs vary significantly and may or may not be
covered by insurance.
We accept Visa/MC credit cards for an additional 5% charge. We do not accept
insurance although we will provide you with a properly coded receipt so that you
may be able to submit for reimbursement from your insurance carrier.
